Audi RS Q3 2017 Review: Performance Meets Practicality
Introduced globally in 2013, the Audi RS Q3 is a compact crossover that has only just landed on Middle Eastern shores, facing stiff competition from the Mercedes-Benz GLA and the Range Rover Evoque. Catered to performance enthusiasts who aren’t willing to sacrifice everyday practicality, the RS Q3 is a niche offering that is admired by the masses.

Exterior
The RS Q3 is an absolute head-turner in Java Green. With its flared fender arches and black accents, this German crossover sits on a set of 20-inch Audi Sport alloys, showcasing narrow headlights encircled in a strip of LED DRLs. The ascending window line and tall roofline lend the RS Q3 a presence that its fellow stablemates lack.

Interior
Inside, carbon fiber inlays along the dashboard, center console, and door panels connote the RS Q3’s sporting pedigree while complementing the diamond stitching that embellishes the supple Nappa leather. The performance-oriented crossover offers exceptional visibility and seating for up to four individuals, with 356 liters of cargo space.
Safety & Technology
The RS Q3 boasts a prestigious 5-star Euro NCAP crash rating and is fitted with numerous safety features, including:
- Automatic headlight range control
- Full-size airbags with front seat deactivation
- Blind spot monitoring
- Cruise control
- Tire-pressure monitoring system
On the technology front, the infotainment system, although slightly dated, is extremely user-friendly, complemented by Bose audio, Sat Nav, four-way lumbar support, and a panoramic roof.

Drive
The RS Q3’s captain's chair features aluminum pedals and a flat-bottom steering wheel, making it clear that this is no ordinary crossover. The 2.5-liter 5-cylinder engine produces 367 horsepower and 565 Nm of torque, delivering a thrilling driving experience.
Surprisingly fuel-efficient, the RS Q3 consumes just 8.6 liters per 100 km. It sprints to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds and has a top speed of 270 km/h. While the stiff suspension setup curbs body roll at high speeds, it may invite a chiropractor visit after city speed bumps.
In Dynamic mode with traction/stability systems off, the RS Q3 offers launch control, holding the revs at 3,000 RPM for a few seconds before taking off. With drilled rotors and sizeable RS calipers, stopping power is impressive.
However, it lacks the signature RS exhaust note, often making it feel muted unless in automatic and Dynamic mode.
Verdict
The Audi RS Q3 is a delightful car that cements its dedication to performance, offering a greater punch and top speed than its rival from Affalterbach. Although priced at AED 274,000 with optional extras, it remains competitively priced compared to the GLA 45 AMG.
Pros:
- Extremely powerful and fun to drive.
- Packed with technology.
Cons:
- Lacks the signature RS exhaust note.
