In production since 1994, the Hyundai Accent is an economy sedan whose popularity has grown exponentially over the years. Accelerating into its fifth-generation, the Accent competes with the likes of the funky Kia Rio and the extremely popular Nissan Sunny.

Unveiled at the Canadian International Auto Show, the all-new Accent is seen flaunting a bold design, a reworked interior, and a more efficient powertrain, amongst other changes. 29mm wider and 15mm longer than its predecessor, the 2018 Accent is determined to trump segment rivals in the safety and comfort department.

“The Hyundai Accent has been enormously successful worldwide,” said Mike Song, Hyundai’s Head of Operations for Africa and the Middle East. “The model has firmly established our brand as a leader in the small car market, and this new generation will set new standards in its class.”

Prominent contours allow for the design of the all-new Accent to exhibit confidence and sophistication, while remaining true to the brand’s signature design language. The cascading grille is flanked by wrap-around headlights and a set of striking LED daytime running lights.

Within the cabin, premium soft-touch materials create an environment that is inviting and comfortable. A wide instrument panel features a back-up camera as standard equipment with the option of either a five-or-seven-inch color display.

The Hyundai Accent 2018 also welcomes a revised powertrain that is tuned for enhanced fuel efficiency. The 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine produces 132 horsepower and an estimated 161 Nm of torque. Mated to a six-speed automatic transmission that is 2kg lighter than the previous unit, fuel efficiency sees a boost of 7%.

Upping the ante in terms of segment safety, the all-new Accent features six airbags as standard, in addition to Electronic Stability Control, Vehicle Stability Management, Traction Control, and ABS. As a segment-first, the Accent also offers Autonomous Emergency Braking, which utilizes a front forward-facing radar to detect a vehicle and warn the driver of a potential collision. As per company officials, the all-new Accent is expected to make its Middle Eastern debut in the third-quarter of the year.
