If you have taken an Uber in Dubai or Riyadh lately, chances are you have sat in the back of a Ford Taurus. It has quietly become the default large sedan for the region, filling the void left by the Crown Victoria and challenging the dominance of the Toyota Camry.
Now, Ford Middle East has launched a heavily updated version for 2026, and for the first time, it brings the one thing it desperately needed to fight the Japanese: a hybrid powertrain.
What’s New?
Visually, the 2026 Taurus gets a sharper suit. The front fascia has been redesigned with new headlamp graphics that look suspiciously similar to the Ford Evos concept.

There are new wheel designs and fresh colours like Hot Pepper Red and Vapor Blue, though let's be honest, 90% of these will be sold in white or silver.
Inside, the cabin gets a material upgrade with new upholstery options and a redesigned centre console. The focus here is clearly on comfort.
The Hybrid Factor
The biggest news is under the bonnet.
For years, the Taurus has relied solely on the 2.0-litre EcoBoost engine. That engine is still available, producing 239 hp and 382 Nm of torque, mated to an 8-speed automatic. It is punchy, smooth, and thirsty enough to make you wince at the petrol pump.
But for 2026, Ford has finally introduced a 1.5-litre Hybrid option.
While Ford hasn't released the exact efficiency figures yet, the intent is clear: they want to steal sales from the Toyota Camry Hybrid. This powertrain is designed for "urban driving and long-distance cruising," which is PR-speak for "saving money on fuel." For fleet operators and families alike, this is the engine to buy.
Tech Overload
Inside, the Taurus continues to embarrass cars costing twice as much when it comes to screen real estate.

The dashboard is dominated by a massive 13.2-inch touchscreen running Ford's latest SYNC 4A system. It supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard.
If you opt for the top-spec Titanium trim, you get a 10-speaker B&O sound system. Even the base "Ambiente" trim now gets a 360-degree camera. Safe to say, it is properly kitted out.
Safety First
Ford hasn't skimped on safety, either. The 2026 Taurus comes loaded with the usual alphabet soup of driver aids:
- Pre-Collision Assist with AEB
- Blind Spot Monitoring
- Lane-Keeping Assist
- Cross-Traffic Alert
- Emergency Steering Assist
There is also the FordPass app, which allows you to remotely start the car to cool down the cabin before you get in.
