Warnings from Dubai's Traffic Police Chief

Dubai’s Traffic Police Chief, Major General Mohammed Saif Al Zafeen, issued a warning against drivers who use their mobile phones while driving, stating that the police will not tolerate such a horrible mistake.

Penalties for Violating Traffic Rules

Al Zafeen added that violators of this rule will face:

  • A fine of Dh200
  • 4 black points added to their traffic record

He described these violations as “serious mistakes that often lead to disasters”.

Statistics on Mobile Phone Violations

Dubai’s police figures reveal that:

  • 20,772 tickets were issued to drivers caught using their mobile phones while driving in the first half of 2013.
  • 23,473 fines were issued in the first half of 2012.

Advice for Drivers

Al Zafeen advised that any person who receives a phone call while driving must:

  1. Stop their car on the right side of the road.
  2. Make their call safely.

He emphasized that they will no longer tolerate this mistake.
