Dubai Police Develops a Device to Control Vehicle Speed
Introduction
Following several incidents involving malfunctioning speed control devices, Dubai Police has taken measures to enhance driver safety.
Official Statements
Major General Mohammed Saif Al Zafeen, Head of the Dubai Police Traffic Department, announced that two rescue vehicles have been equipped with a device designed to stop cars that are experiencing speed control failures. This is currently a trial, and if successful, it will be installed in more police vehicles.
How the Device Works
Al Zafeen explained the functionality of the device, stating that it is placed at the rear of the vehicle. The police vehicle needs to position itself in front of the car being pursued. The device will then pull the vehicle towards it, which will lead to a gradual collision with the police car, effectively bringing the vehicle to a stop.
Available Accessories
There are some commercially available collision absorption accessories in the international market, but the system currently under development could be the first of its kind for this specific purpose.
