Toyota Prius: Fourth Generation Hybrid Now in the UAE
The iconic Toyota Prius has finally arrived in the UAE courtesy of Al-Futtaim Motors. This is the first Prius to reach this side of the world, but it is actually the fourth generation. Launched in 1997, the Prius has sold over 3.5 million units worldwide, and its introduction in the Middle East will only add to its success as this market slowly adapts to hybrids and hybrid technology.
The primary focus of hybrid technology is saving fuel, and the new Prius excels in this area, boasting a fuel efficiency of 3.83 l/100km. The vehicle operates on a combination of a 1.8-liter petrol engine and an electric motor to achieve this remarkable consumption rate. It's important to note that since this is not a plug-in hybrid, the batteries are charged by the petrol engine itself.
Exterior Design
At first glance, the Prius is not your conventional vehicle; it looks and feels futuristic. The design may be controversial, but it is a significant improvement over the previous generation. The Prius embraces the latest Toyota design language, characterized by sharp edges throughout. This new generation is 60mm longer, 15mm wider, and 20mm lower than its predecessor while retaining the same wheelbase.
Interior Features
The interior of the Prius seats 5 people comfortably and offers a spacious boot. This top-spec model also includes a wired charger to meet modern needs. Standard features include:

- Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)
- Dynamic Stability Control (DSC)
- Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
- Traction Control (TRC)
Performance and Driving Experience
The driving experience in the Prius is incredibly quiet—so quiet that you can hear your own breath. The vehicle features a digital instrument cluster located in the center, displaying various statistics on your environmental impact.
