2014 Toyota Yaris Sedan Review

2014 Toyota Yaris Sedan

Toyota has introduced the most appealing Yaris yet, the 2014 Yaris Sedan, just before the launch of the Tiida Hatchback. Whether sedan or hatchback, most customers will focus on the interior and style over the type of compact car. The brand reputation also plays a crucial role, especially in a market with strong competition in this segment.

Elegance

I personally loved the updates to the Yaris Sedan; it is the most attractive car in its class. The sporty model, in particular, features a distinctive front bumper compared to the Kia Rio, Hyundai Accent, and Peugeot 301. Additionally, the Yaris Sedan is the largest in size. It is longer and taller than both the Kia Rio and Hyundai Accent. The only cars larger than the Yaris Sedan are the Nissan Sunny and Peugeot 301.

Interior Features

  • All Toyota Yaris Sedan models come with fabric seats.
  • Manual seat adjustments.
  • Available with 2 to 4 speakers.
  • Dual front airbags.
  • The sporty model features a unique leather-wrapped steering wheel with blue stitching, sporty gauges, a multi-information display, and sport seats.
  • The SE+ model offers higher-quality fabric seats, a leather steering wheel, push-button start, and keyless entry.
  • The air conditioning is effective and performs better than the Nissan Sunny.

While it has decent features, it does not lead the class. For instance, the Peugeot 301 offers Bluetooth connectivity and fog lights.

Interior Space

The Yaris boasts an impressive headroom of 940mm, making it comfortable for taller drivers. The rear legroom is also decent, although not as spacious as the Nissan Sunny. In terms of trunk space, the Peugeot has the largest capacity at 640L, while the Yaris offers 476L. This is larger not only than the Nissan Sunny, Kia Rio, and Hyundai Accent but also exceeds the trunk space of the Toyota Corolla. Finally, the SE+ model comes with a 60:40 split rear seat, a feature that is typically uncommon in sedans but is essential for additional cargo space when needed.

Driving Performance

All compact sedans are designed to get you from point A to point B without a focus on performance. The Yaris Sedan features MacPherson struts and a well-tuned suspension, along with electric power steering (also found in the Nissan Sunny), which enhances city driving compared to other compact sedans. With less than 100 horsepower from the 1.3L engine and 107 horsepower from the 1.5L engine, this car is built for urban streets. If your daily commute is from Sharjah to Jebel Ali, this might not be the ideal choice. However, it excels in the city with its small engine, making it economical.

Conclusion

Opt for the sport model or SE+ version; the price difference is minimal, and you will enjoy greater comfort. This car is reliable, and its resale value is excellent, especially in the UAE. If you're looking for a vehicle for city driving, this is a suitable option. Also, consider the Nissan Sunny as an alternative.
