2015 Range Rover Evoque Review
The 2015 Range Rover Evoque was introduced in 2011 and quickly garnered rave reviews, becoming a favorite among buyers of luxury SUVs, particularly among women. Now, it's time to test it out and find out what makes it so appealing. Here are the prices and specifications for the Evoque.
Elegance
When first launched, the Evoque stood out with its unique design. It was uncommon to find such luxury in an SUV at that time. However, after four years, it faces tough competition, particularly from the Porsche Macan (see prices and specifications for the Macan). That vehicle is exceptionally beautiful, so Range Rover needs to stay alert. I have previously tested the Macan, and you can check out my review here.
Interior Materials and Quality
Jaguar Land Rover is a luxury brand, and even their smallest models boast high quality. However, it’s not quite on par with their larger SUV offerings. The interior is attractive, featuring a blend of leather and durable plastic that ensures a comfortable drive. Customers of this vehicle are looking for luxury at a lower price point, and that's exactly what they get.
Space and Visibility
The seating position in the Evoque is upright and comfortable, providing clear visibility in all directions. Additionally, with sensors and a rearview camera, you’ll enjoy excellent visibility. The car comfortably accommodates five passengers, but the trunk space is smaller than expected, and it would be preferable for the next generation to be larger.
Interior Features
The Evoque offers all essential features, including:
- Bluetooth
- AUX
- USB
- Touchscreen display
- Navigation system
- CD/DVD/MP3 player
I didn't notice any missing features in the car. However, I believe they need to update the touchscreen since it appears outdated. Aside from that, the addition of terrain control significantly enhances its off-road performance, making driving in the desert a pleasure. Additionally, the short wheelbase contributes positively to its handling.
Power and Transmission
The Evoque is equipped with a 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that delivers 240 horsepower. This allows it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds. However, in my experience, it took 7.8 seconds, which is close. The fuel consumption rate is 12.8L/100km. In my opinion, they should offer a 3.0L V6 supercharged engine option, as paying around 200,000 for a 2.0L engine isn't practical. Moreover, the weight of the SUV would adapt better with a larger engine.
Handling, Suspension, and Brakes
The Evoque was not designed to be a sporty SUV like the Macan, hence its specifications differ. The handling of this compact Range Rover is comparable to other SUVs, but it performs significantly better in corners. At a speed of 80 km/h, the vehicle offers a smooth driving experience. The brakes are excellent, which is expected from a JLR vehicle.
Conclusion
The 2015 Range Rover Evoque is a solid choice for a compact SUV with good off-road capabilities and decent street performance. It features a small engine, high quality, and a pleasant driving experience. No other brand offers such a package. While the Macan excels on the road, it falls short off-road. However, if a V6 option is made available, it would undoubtedly outperform the Macan in street driving.
