2016 Nissan Maxima Review: Stunning Design and Performance
Introduction
The Nissan Maxima has garnered a substantial following since its debut in the 1980s and 1990s. This era marked Nissan's peak with sports cars like the Skyline and the Z. During this time, Japanese cars became renowned for their enjoyable driving experience at competitive prices. Nissan promoted the Maxima as "the four-door sports car," capturing the hearts of many. However, Nissan later shifted focus, positioning it similarly to the Altima. Fortunately, the manufacturer has revived the Maxima with a fresh approach.
Key Features:
- Engine: 3.5L V6
- Transmission: CVT
- Power: 300 horsepower / 330 Nm
- Top Speed: 220 km/h
- Price: 145,000 AED
Exterior Design
The Maxima's design is undeniably attractive and eye-catching. Its sleek blue color and the front design truly enhance its appeal. Despite being on the market for some time, this car continues to draw attention, which is not something typically associated with Nissan. Kudos to the design team for creating such a striking vehicle.
Interior
The Maxima still utilizes the older platform shared with the Altima, providing ample space for five passengers. The trunk space is also quite generous. While these specifications are commendable for a sedan, it remains uncertain whether they meet the standards for a sporty sedan. The premium SR model offers leather seats, a flat-bottom steering wheel, diamond stitching, and ambient lighting. Although the touchscreen display appears somewhat outdated, its simplicity and ease of use are its strong points. Additionally, the cabin is remarkably quiet.
Driving Experience
The engine is a 3.5L V6 producing 300 horsepower (up from 290 previously), but this does not necessarily translate to an exhilarating driving experience. The key lies in the weight distribution. The car feels heavy at the front, which affects its handling in turns. The CVT transmission performs well in sport mode, making it hard to revert to driving an Altima. However, there is something lacking that Nissan needs to address.
Summary
The new Maxima is an improvement over its predecessor, but it still requires significant advancements to compete effectively in its segment.
