2016 Toyota Fortuner Driving Experience
The 2016 Toyota Fortuner has recently been launched by Al-Futtaim Motors in the UAE. This new Fortuner marks a complete redesign after a decade since the first generation. Renowned for its off-road capabilities, let’s dive into the specifics of this vehicle.
Key Specifications:
- Engine: 4.0-liter V6
- Transmission: 6-speed automatic
- Power: 235 horsepower / 380 Nm of torque
- Top Speed: 180 km/h
- Price: 140,000 AED
Exterior Design
You’ll be impressed by the Fortuner’s design at first glance. It looks robust, reflecting its capabilities. The exterior has undergone a complete makeover, making it longer, wider, and lower than before. The lowered stance doesn’t compromise ground clearance; in fact, it has improved significantly. Notable exterior features include chrome accents, LED headlights, and daytime running lights. The front and rear designs follow Toyota’s new aesthetic, inspired by Lexus. I truly admire its fresh appearance.
Interior Features
The interior is simple yet high in quality. You’ll find colorful stitching, metal accents, and the Fortuner name in various spots. The vehicle comes equipped with leather seats and a rear entertainment system. A nice addition is the 4.2" TFT screen. However, it would have been better if the rear entertainment screens were mounted on the headrests. Additionally, the entertainment system could use an update. Overall, the cabin is quiet, and the driving experience is comfortable.
Driving Experience
The new Fortuner features a 6-speed automatic transmission, which I personally find outdated, especially with many manufacturers moving towards 7-speed transmissions and beyond. In the model I tested, the engine is a 4.0-liter V6 producing 235 horsepower and 380 Nm of torque. The power delivery is smooth, but I believe Toyota should develop new engines rather than just updating older ones. You may feel the vehicle's limitations on highways, and it can be noticeable during sharp turns. However, the suspension is excellent, keeping the vehicle stable on rough terrains.
Experience Summary
If you’re in the market for an SUV that is family-friendly, reasonably priced, and covers all the essentials, the Fortuner is a solid choice. You’re sure to appreciate this vehicle.
