Review of the All-New 2016 Toyota Fortuner
The 2016 Toyota Fortuner has recently been launched by Al-Futtaim Motors in the United Arab Emirates.
This new Fortuner is a complete redesign, taking about a decade to enter its second generation. The Fortuner has become synonymous with off-road driving, and this new model undoubtedly upholds that reputation. Let's take a closer look at the details of this vehicle.
Main Features
- Engine: 4.0-liter / 6 cylinders
- Transmission: 6-speed automatic
- Power: 235 horsepower / 380 Nm of torque
- Top Speed: 180 km/h
- Price: 140,000 AED
Exterior Design
At first glance, the Fortuner looks like the vehicle everyone has been waiting for. It is designed to be robust on the roads. The exterior design has been modified to be longer, wider, and lower. However, being lower does not compromise its ground clearance or off-road capabilities. In fact, I was impressed by its ground clearance while driving on sand dunes.
The exterior features chrome trims, LED headlights, and daytime running lights. The front and rear of the vehicle are designed according to Toyota's new design language inspired by Lexus, giving the Fortuner an overall luxurious appearance that I appreciate.

Interior Design
The interior design seems very basic but is well-constructed. It features colorful stitching throughout the cabin and metallic decorations with the "Fortuner" name on the upper glove box and decorative trims on the rear door. Additionally, you will find leather seats and a rear entertainment system for added comfort. The inclusion of a Lexus "4.2 TFT" screen inside the cabin is a nice touch.
Downsides: The rear entertainment system would be better positioned on the headrests, and it appears that the front infotainment system has not been updated. Overall, there are no rattling noises, and the cabin certainly feels comfortable.
Driving Experience
The Fortuner is equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission, which, in my opinion, feels outdated, considering Japanese manufacturers are producing engines with 7 speeds or more for fuel efficiency. During our test drive, the gearbox works harmoniously with the 6-cylinder, 4.0-liter engine that produces 235 horsepower and 380 Nm of torque. The power delivery from the engine feels smooth, but I believe Toyota should develop a new engine rather than just reconfiguring the old one. There is a noticeable lack of power when driving on highways, alongside a feeling of instability during turns, even with its lowered height. However, the excellent suspension system keeps the vehicle calm and composed while traversing up and down sand dunes.

Conclusion
If you're looking for a vehicle suitable for off-road conditions with all the essentials at a reasonable price, the Fortuner is the right choice. This car will definitely impress you.
