2017 Lincoln MKZ Review
Founded in 1917, Lincoln is a name that evokes memories of classic cars like the Continental and the Town Car. Over the years, Ford has used the Lincoln brand as a platform for launching luxury versions of its various car models. Let’s explore whether Ford has succeeded in establishing Lincoln as a standalone brand recognized for its luxury vehicles, akin to how Nissan has done with Infiniti and Toyota with Lexus. Discover more about the 2017 Lincoln MKZ.

Exterior Design
In this new model, Lincoln has moved away from the winged front design that it was known for, opting instead for a sleek, modern look reminiscent of some Jaguar models. The front grille design mirrors that of the new 2017 Continental, which I suspect will be featured in all future Lincoln models. This new design incorporates a significant amount of chrome and features automatic LED headlights. The rear design remains unchanged, making it easy to identify the MKZ by its signature light strip that spans the back of the car, though the 2017 model’s front design is the distinguishing factor. This version comes equipped with sporty 19-inch wheels that enhance its overall appearance.

Interior Design
The interior design of the 2017 Lincoln MKZ is striking, featuring an abundance of leather, wood, and chrome, with some plastic elements as well. Unique design choices in the central console provide storage space beneath the main console, which can be challenging to access while driving. Lincoln’s distinctive feature of using buttons for gear selection instead of a traditional gear lever adds a unique touch to the design but can complicate driving maneuvers, especially when frequently reversing and moving forward.
The MKZ seats, much like most American cars, are incredibly comfortable, utilizing high-quality leather in attractive colors along with extensive adjustment options and a massage feature for both the driver and front passenger. Rear space is ample, with air conditioning vents and two USB ports for mobile charging. One of the standout features in this version is the large panoramic sunroof made from a single piece of glass.
Safety and Technology
As with any car in its class, the 2017 Lincoln MKZ is equipped with a plethora of comfort and safety features, including keyless entry, a push-button start, and dual-zone automatic climate control for the driver and passenger. The REVEL sound system with 14 speakers is particularly impressive, enhancing both the aesthetic and audio aspects of the car. Don’t forget the Bluetooth connectivity that supports both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, controllable via voice commands.
For safety specifications, the car includes a blind-spot monitoring system, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control that maintains a safe distance from the vehicle in front, along with a pre-collision feature. Given the size of this vehicle, the parking assist system is particularly useful and advantageous.

Driving Experience
The 2017 Lincoln MKZ is powered by a twin-turbo 6-cylinder engine that generates 365 hp and 570 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed transmission that can be shifted using paddles behind the steering wheel. The car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in under 6 seconds, which is impressive for a vehicle of this weight.
The car offers a light ride that enhances comfort during long drives, with a suspension system that nearly erases bumps and road irregularities. This is a hallmark of the MKZ, allowing for hours of driving without discomfort, especially with a special noise-cancellation system that maintains tranquility inside the cabin.
However, when navigating curves, the car doesn’t instill a great deal of confidence at the high speeds offered by this engine. You’ll feel the weight of the vehicle, which remains a constant presence despite the available suspension and steering sensitivity adjustments that I found more beneficial on long, straight roads.
Verdict
I believe the 2017 Lincoln MKZ represents a solid entry into the mid-luxury car market. Its competitiveness lies in offering a quiet and comfortable ride with high-end luxury features at prices lower than its competitors, especially the German brands. With prices ranging from 165,000 to 225,000 AED, the MKZ is a viable option for many seeking enjoyable long-distance travel.
However, can Ford establish Lincoln as a standalone brand in the market, as others have done? That remains the challenge Lincoln faces in the coming years.
