About the Toyota 86
History of the Toyota 86
The Toyota 86, including its variants like the Toyota GT86, Scion FRS, or Subaru BRZ, originated as a joint project between Toyota and Subaru aimed at creating the best possible sports car at an affordable price.
Key Features
This vehicle offers all the essentials of a sports car, including:
- Front-mid engine layout
- Rear-wheel drive
- Manual transmission
Updates for the 2017 Toyota 86
Toyota decided to make another attempt by discontinuing the Scion brand and rebranding all models under the Toyota name. In my opinion, this is a bold and significant step, as the Scion name was not as recognizable as Toyota, which should lead to increased sales.
What Happened to the Scion FRS
The Scion FRS has been transformed into the Toyota 86 and updated for 2017.
New Updates
The new model features several design updates, including:
- Larger front grille
- LED headlights and taillights
- New bumpers
- New 17-inch alloy wheels
The power has also been slightly increased; the new Toyota 86 now generates 205 horsepower (up from 200 horsepower) and 211 Nm of torque (up from 205 Nm). The engine remains the 2.0L "Boxer" from Subaru. The interior now features a mix of leather and Alcantara, along with a new steering wheel. The Toyota 86 is expected to hit showrooms by the end of this year.
