Introduction
After eight years since the introduction of its second-generation model, the Infiniti QX80 has undergone significant modifications and improvements, emerging better than ever. It was first unveiled at the Dubai International Motor Show last December, featuring subtle changes to its exterior and interior design, along with new technological additions that solidify its status as a leader in its class.
Launch Experience
Our media coverage began at the official launch event for the luxurious Infiniti QX80 as we headed to the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Ras Al Khaimah. We embarked on a thrilling journey aboard a helicopter provided by Infiniti, which took us from the Dubai Police Academy helipad to the Ritz-Carlton. The coverage included:
- A lavish dinner at the farm
- A refreshing drive through the mountains and desert roads of Ras Al Khaimah
This experience left me with a lasting impression of what it feels like to own a QX80, a moment I will never forget.
Exterior Design
Infiniti has moved away from the bulky design of previous models, introducing a sophisticated new design language. Changes include redesigned headlights, a prominent front grille, sleek taillights, and uniquely styled front bumper openings. The long hood and elevated stance are enhanced by:
- Three new exterior color options
- A stunning set of 22-inch alloy wheels
There is no doubt that its exterior design stands out, embodying the true essence of luxury. However, I found myself questioning why Infiniti positioned the turn signal lights on the lower part of the rear bumper.
Interior Cabin
As a luxury vehicle from Infiniti, the interior cabin is equipped with everything one would expect from a premium SUV. Upon entering, you are immediately struck by the spaciousness and the high-quality materials that contribute to its stunning beauty:
- Rich brown tones accented with beige and black
- Luxurious leather throughout, with additional padding on the door panels and armrests
- A variety of wood trim options
The cabin exudes a clear sense of luxury without being overly ostentatious.
Technology
In terms of technology, Infiniti has replaced the outdated entertainment system found in previous models with a new system that features a larger, clearer 8-inch central display, along with impressive rear screens and wireless headphones:
- Multiple USB ports distributed throughout the cabin
- Bluetooth connectivity
- HDMI input
To enhance safety, the front windshield mirror is equipped with a camera that increases the viewing angle for rear seats by 48 degrees, compared to traditional mirrors that offer a limited 19-degree view.
Performance
The engine of the Infiniti QX80 remains unchanged, featuring a powerful 5.6-liter V8 engine that generates 400 horsepower and 560 Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed automatic transmission that distributes power to all wheels. Although it lacks the rear center axle found in its cousin, the Nissan Patrol, it can easily tackle tough obstacles and steep hills thanks to its high torque and power without needing to shift into lower gears.
Conclusion
In summary, the 2018 Infiniti QX80 is an exceptional vehicle in every aspect. It offers everything you need, from commuting to work and running errands to its impressive off-road capabilities on rugged terrain and sand dunes, all while providing a smooth and luxurious driving experience with a high level of safety features. The Infiniti QX80 has never been better!
