Driving Experience of the 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee Off-Road
Introduction
During our trip to Italy, I had the opportunity to drive the 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee off-road for the first time. My initial impression was that this SUV could handle rough terrains while providing the comfort of American luxury. Let’s see if my assumption holds true.
Key Information About the Jeep Grand Cherokee
Before diving into the details of my experience, let me share some essential information about the Jeep Grand Cherokee. This award-winning SUV is recognized as one of the "most powerful street-legal SUVs," boasting over 700 horsepower under its hood. While you might hesitate to take this beast off-road, it promises to deliver the best of both worlds.
Performance of the Jeep Grand Cherokee
In our test, we drove the Trailhawk version, known for its superior off-road capabilities. This model features a front approach angle of 29.8 degrees, which can be increased to 36.1 degrees by removing the front fascia, while the rear angle measures 22.8 degrees, and it has a ground clearance of 274.32 mm.
Engine
Under the hood lies a 3.2-liter V6 engine that generates 271 horsepower and 324 Nm of torque, enabling the Grand Cherokee to tow up to 2,041 kg. The engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, providing smooth gear shifts for a comfortable ride on paved roads while delivering ample power for off-road adventures.
Exterior and Interior Design
Exterior Design
The exterior design features distinctive touches, such as red tow hooks at both the front and rear, along with 18-inch all-terrain wheels and tires.
Interior Design
Inside, the first thing you'll notice is the quality of materials used, complemented by the Uconnect system with a 7-inch touchscreen that allows you to control nearly everything in the vehicle. Additionally, the entertainment system enables connectivity with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
This isn't the only display in the Grand Cherokee; you'll also find a 7-inch screen behind the steering wheel that provides vehicle information and offers various style options.
Safety
Regarding safety, the 2019 Grand Cherokee comes equipped with a forward-collision warning system with collision mitigation, cruise control, electronic stability control (ESC), electronic roll mitigation (ERM), blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-path detection, adaptive cruise control (ACC), traction control system (TSC), adjustable head restraints for the front seats, full-length side curtain airbags, and front airbags.
