2019 Renault Duster Review: New Features and Driving Experience

Introduction
When I received an invitation from Renault Middle East to participate in the official launch of the 2019 Renault Duster, I was thrilled. Not only would I get to experience a new car that had not yet reached our markets, but the launch was set to take place in my hometown of Jordan.
Experience at the Dead Sea
After a delightful weekend with my family, I met with one of the event coordinators, and we headed to the lowest point on Earth at the Dead Sea to begin our experience with the all-new Renault Duster. I arrived at the Dead Sea in the afternoon, greeted warmly by the Renault Middle East team, who explained our itinerary for the upcoming two days. Following this, I relaxed at the Kempinski Hotel and Resort, which was truly a different experience, even though I had visited the Dead Sea many times before.
Meeting with the Renault Team
The next day, we met with Marwan Haidamous, the General Manager of Renault Middle East, and his team, who shared insights about the car and what sets the new model apart from its predecessor. We then proceeded to the back of the hotel to select the cars we would test drive that day. To my delight, there were 11 Renault Dusters available, one of which was orange. Thankfully, that color was assigned to me, setting me apart from the other journalists.
Exploring New Areas
We all set off as a large group to explore some regions and landmarks where it was my first time driving. We took the mountain road leading to Wadi Mujib and then to the beautiful Dana Biosphere Reserve, reaching the Rose City of Petra, where we ascended its mountains in Renault Dusters via a rugged back road. It was one of the most enjoyable experiences I have had.
Exterior Design
After an exciting and challenging drive, I took a good look at the new car and the distinct features that set it apart from the previous model. The all-new 2019 Renault Duster showcases a noticeable change in its exterior design compared to its predecessor, with a new front end featuring a chrome grille and C-shaped LED daytime running lights. The new Duster also exhibits significant changes to its sides and rear, giving it a larger appearance than the previous model with a more dynamic shape.
Interior Design
Inside, the Duster has undergone a clear transformation, touching almost all interior components. The steering wheel has been redesigned for a sportier feel and features leather trimming, along with leather accents on the dashboard and doors. Comfortable fabric seats are suitable for long trips, providing better visibility and new storage areas in front of the gear shifter. Additionally, the rear cargo space has increased by 20% compared to the previous model, now offering 478 liters of storage.
Technological Features
The vehicle is equipped with impressive technological features ideal for a competitively priced SUV starting at AED 54,000. It includes Hill Descent Control, a Multiview Camera with Blind Spot Warning, a four-wheel drive monitoring system, automatic air conditioning, Remote Engine Start, a 7-inch touchscreen, and a smart Renault keyless entry system.
Drivetrain Options
The all-new Duster is available with two-wheel drive (2WD) and four-wheel drive (4WD) options, featuring two gasoline engine choices: a 1.6-liter engine (2x4 drive) paired with a CVT automatic transmission, and a 2.0-liter engine with an automatic transmission (4x4 drive).
Statement from the General Manager
Marwan Haidamous, General Manager of Renault Middle East, commented on the launch of the all-new Duster: "Before the basic Duster arrived in the region in 2012, there was little awareness of the Renault brand in the Middle East. The original Duster model was responsible for raising brand awareness. Now, after six years, we welcome the all-new Duster, which once again redefines and revitalizes the brand, elevating it to new levels of performance and positive impact - propelling us further toward our goal of being the best in the segment."
