The All-New 2021 Ford F-150 Tremor
Expanding Ford's Truck Lineup
Ford is broadening its range of rugged off-road trucks with the launch of the 2021 F-150 Tremor, featuring upgrades specifically designed for off-road adventures, thanks to its impressive towing capabilities and payload capacity that owners expect.
Marketing Director's Statement
Todd Eckert, Marketing Director for Ford's Truck Division, stated, "Similar to the Super Duty Tremor and Ranger Tremor, the introduction of the all-new F-150 Tremor is a direct response to how our customers are using our trucks to enjoy an outdoor lifestyle. The F-150 Tremor provides the additional off-road capabilities they seek, thanks to our latest off-road technology."
Design of the Ford F-150 Tremor
The F-150 Tremor is engineered for customers who desire off-road capabilities that exceed the FX4 off-road package. This design is a result of observing how customers utilize their trucks in:
- Cornfields
- Uneven terrains
- Muddy swamps
- Rocky off-road paths
Ford's seasoned off-road experts have crafted a truck that meets the rugged lifestyle of its owners. All additional capabilities are integrated without sacrificing the truck's core functions—exceptional towing and payload performance, coupled with a level of integration and technology that only Ford can provide.
Specifications of the F-150 Tremor
Like all other F-150 trucks, the Tremor utilizes a frame made of ultra-high-strength steel, along with a body crafted from a blend of high-strength aluminum that meets military standards. It comes with a SuperCrew configuration that includes:
- 5.5-foot bed
- 3.5-liter EcoBoost® V6 engine
- 10-speed automatic transmission
- Four-wheel drive as a standard feature
The F-150 Tremor is available in standard, mid, and high trim levels, including a wide array of standard and optional features.
Enhanced Suspension System
The improved suspension system begins with re-tuned front and rear springs to enhance ground clearance and help keep the tires more connected to the ground. The front axle joints have been redesigned to provide an additional 1.2 inches of ground clearance, while adjustments include:
- Front monotube dampers
- Rear twin-tube dampers
These components, designed specifically for the Tremor, offer softer damping at high speeds, with additional damping and control for harsher impacts on rugged terrains.
Performance of the F-150 Tremor
The protective skid plate styled after the Raptor safeguards the front components in tough off-road driving conditions. These modifications contribute to providing:
- 27.8-degree approach angle
- 21.6-degree breakover angle
- 10.9 inches of ground clearance
The Tremor features an increased overall suspension travel of 1.5 inches in the rear and 1 inch in the front.
Off-Road Driving Technology
To navigate and tackle challenging rocky terrains, standard rotating components include a front and rear locking differential, with an optional upgrade expected later for a "Torsen" ® limited-slip differential available across all trim levels.
Additionally, high-tier Tremor customers receive a transfer case providing on-demand torque similar to the high-performance unit in the F-150 Raptor, integrating all-wheel drive and four-wheel drive capabilities to handle a wide range of off-road conditions.
Towing Capacity of the Truck
Alongside its off-road capabilities, the F-150 Tremor does not shy away from meeting the everyday demands expected of any F-150 pickup truck. It boasts a conventional maximum towing capacity of 10,900 pounds, allowing it to haul recreational gear, whether it be ATVs with accessories, a family trailer, a boat, or a small fleet of SUVs.
