The BMW M3 has become a household name for avid automotive enthusiasts aspiring for a thrilling and serious entry-level machine that exudes brutal force and handles with plenary perfection. Several Hollywood franchises featuring the frantic beast has made it a sensation among those seeking an unexpurgated driving experience.

As with most things, The M3 also receives a mid-cycle update and there are noticeable cosmetic and mechanical expiations to strike an even harder wedge in the fray.

On the Surface

The M3 now looks more reminiscent of the M4 with curved headlamps and a humongous grille upfront than the standard model’s tapering headlights and stubby grille. Casting a strong spell on the lookers are forged alloy wheels, embellished in silver hue. Competition trim is characterized by silver outlining around the moniker. Overall, the sedan screams sportiness with features such as quad-exhaust tail pipes, matte-finished livery, tight wheel wells, and compact dimensions.

Under the Surface

Stepping inside the cabin, what will instantly grab attention, is the redesigned central AC vents, which albeit superfluous, justify the obvious traits of a facelift. The remainder of the cabin spouts aggression in panache with a flat-bottomed steering wheel that has red stitching and carbon-fiber elements for the bucket seats. Additionally, the car can be availed with Alcantara in place of leather for seats so that every inch of the cabin inspires the pulse rate to rise.

The car’s infotainment system witnesses an update too with a curved orientation for the screen. The binnacle for climate settings also appears easier to fathom. The icing on the cake is the voice command availability to change temperature readings.

Under the Hood

With the introduction of every new M3, fans and enthusiasts alike, would be eager to know the mechanical sorcery that alchemists at BMW would have conjured up. Despite the fact that this is only an update given to keep the car fresh in the wake of competition, the number of ponies darting the car ahead has increased from 503 to 523 for the Competition variant from the same 3.0-litre inline-6 mill.

Only the base variant comes equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission whereas the Competition variants can be had with only an automatic transmission while broadening their scope to incorporate rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive layouts. The torque output remains standard at 650 Nm.
The M3 can propel from naught to a ton in a claimed 3.4 seconds to top out at an electronically limited 250 Km/h. However, for added rage from the powertrain, one can opt for the M Driver’s Package to accelerate to a top whack of 290 Km/h.

The car’s production is scheduled to commence from July 2024. The car’s prices are likely to see an acceptable hike, given the added power and the redesigned exterior and interior. It is learned that the M3 CS is on its valedictory route, which means that the M3 will be the flagbearer of the 3-Series’ super-saloon range. While it has stiff competition to grapple with, the M3 for eons, has been the de facto choice for its superior handling, manic acceleration, and unparalleled level of character, which has inspired drivers to live the moment of their life, knocking corners with finesse and galloping pace with sheer confidence (err: Sheer Driving Pleasure!)

The update then, might not be extensive, but in all probability, enough to keep the ravage of competition at bay, until a new successor wakes up to pay homage to its doughty forebears.
