New Speed Limit Radars Installed in Abu Dhabi for Safe Driving

Abu Dhabi Speed Limit Signs

Introduction

New radars that catch motorists who speed in unstable weather conditions have been installed across the emirate of Abu Dhabi. In an effort to reduce the number and severity of accidents in bad weather, Abu Dhabi Police have installed radars that will fine motorists who fail to slow down during foggy or dusty conditions.

Weather-Related Speed Limits

In the event of bad weather, electronic message boards notify motorists of temporary speeds they should follow. For instance, the speed limit on a 120 km/h road is reduced to 80 km/h when visibility is reduced to less than 2,000 meters. Motorists should adhere to these speed limits for their safety and the safety of other road users.

Traffic Regulations and Fines

In bad weather, motorists should pay careful attention to the electronic signboards and follow the speed limits posted on them very closely. According to the UAE Federal Traffic Law, motorists will face fines as follows:

  • AED 600 for exceeding the speed limit by 30 km/h
  • AED 700 for exceeding the speed limit by 40 km/h
  • AED 1,000 for exceeding the speed limit by 50 km/h

When weather conditions improve and visibility is restored, motorists should then follow the speed limit stated on the traffic signs printed on the side of the road.
