Latest News from the Department of Municipalities and Integrated Transport Center
The Department of Municipalities and the Integrated Transport Center (ITC) announced earlier this week that all 6,180 taxis, which make up the public taxi fleet in Abu Dhabi, are now equipped to accept card payments. This feature has been introduced to reduce contact between drivers and passengers, aiming to limit the spread of the coronavirus.
Safety Procedures in Place
According to government regulations and guidelines, all passengers are required to:
- Wear face masks and gloves when entering a taxi.
- Sit in the back seats.
- Ensure that no more than two passengers are allowed per trip.
Additionally, plastic barriers have been installed in all vehicles to separate passengers from drivers, and hand sanitizers are provided in every taxi.
How to Pay Using Credit Cards
To pay for the fare using credit cards, passengers should:
- Download the Abu Dhabi Taxi App in advance from the Apple Store or Play Store.
- Register the required information.
The Integrated Transport Center (ITC) added that this feature will benefit tourists who will no longer need to carry cash to pay for their rides.
