2016 Toyota Land Cruiser launched and our First Impressions
Posted by Mansoor A. Bukhari on Oct 21, 2015
Al Futtaim Motors held a media event for the official launch of the all-new 2016 Toyota Land Cruiser. This ‘refreshed’ model includes the following changes:
- New look; primarily redesigned front and rear end
- 8 speed automatic transmission
- Wireless charging pad
- 2 new interior colors available
- Pre collision system
- Radar cruise control
- Lane Departure Warning
- Automatic High Beam
- Rear Cross Traffic Alert
- Blind Spot Monitor
- Rear entertainment system can now stream media from smartphones
The performance of the car remains the same and so do the trim levels. The car is available in 3 engine options i.e. 4.0 / 4.6 / 5.7 – where the 5.7L comes standard with 8 speed gearbox.
First Impressions
Toyota held a rather short 20 mins media drive for us to get a taste of how the new LC performs. Here are my initial thoughts:
- It feels wider than the previous generation
- More spacious
- 8 speed gearbox is smooth
- The steering is heavy which is desirable in a heavy car
- Acceleration is about the same as before
- Better to drive on road with lowered suspension
- Brakes are spongy
- The new look is spot on. I love it.
