2017 Infiniti QX80 vs 2017 Nissan Patrol Comparison

Posted by on Jul 9, 2017

In a battle of supremacy, popularity, and capability, Japan’s most luxurious SUV, the exquisite Infiniti QX80, takes on the country’s most capable SUV, the legendary Nissan Patrol. Though sharing their underpinnings, the Infiniti QX80 and Nissan Patrol are targeted towards different audiences with different sets of needs and expectations.

Exterior

Having bid farewell to the Nissan Armada platform that its predecessor was built on, the second-generation Infiniti QX80 bears a strong aesthetic bond to its down-to-earth cousin, the Nissan Patrol. Bulbous in comparison to the King of All Terrain, the QX80 lacks the simplicity of the Patrol but makes up for it with a bold mesh grille, large alloys, and a striking navy-blue hue.

Interior

While identical at first glance, the cabins of the 2017 Infiniti QX80 and 2017 Nissan Patrol are distinguishable through subtle differences in the quality of the leather and the generous use of sound deadening materials. Embellished in wood trim and supple leather, it’s not to say the Patrol is lacking in comparison, but it fails to offer the aura of opulence that the Infiniti does.

Performance

Separated by a fine line, both the QX80 and Patrol conceal a 5.6-liter V8 that pushes 400 horsepower and 560 Nm of torque through a 7-speed transmission to an All-Wheel-Drive layout. Flaunting its off-road credentials, the Patrol is fitted with a terrain management system and a rear locking differential, while the heavier Infiniti makes do with the simple option of alternating between Auto, 4H, and 4L drive modes.

Verdict

Believed to be the same offering by many, the differences of the Infiniti QX80 and Nissan Patrol are embedded in the nitty-gritty details that not all wish to delve into. Priced at AED 311,000, the QX80 is the ideal blend of luxury and performance, while the Patrol Platinum’s AED 299,000 price tag is hard to beat. For those who wish to stick within city limits, the Infiniti is the ideal choice.
