With more and more customers preferring robust and practical SUVs, manufacturers are fighting for top spot, offering customers vehicles with impressive water wading capabilities, sufficient power, and enough room to transport large families in absolute comfort. The SUV is the solution and two metal warriors are battling it out; meet the 2017 Lexus LX and the 2017 Infiniti QX80.

Exterior

The Lexus brand has always been an icon in design and the Lexus LX is no different. With an aggressive front grille and sweeping headlights, the LX means business with a capital B. The lines and curves enveloping the vehicle exude luxury, something that the brand is synonymous with. The Infiniti QX80, on the other hand, is more on the contemporary side with its mesh grille and not-so-flashy approach to design. Not a bad thing, for it allows the vehicle to attract a larger audience.

Interior

Again, luxury floods the Lexus LX’s interior with red and black leather, along with minimal use of plastic panels. It wouldn’t be a Lexus if not for those metallic trims which further enhance the classy look of the LX. Buyers will also be treated with an array of strategically placed panels and buttons. The Infiniti QX80 chooses to be more sophisticated with wood trims and supple, black leather.

Performance

A nice exterior and a plush interior will all go to waste without a decent engine and Lexus has more than that to offer. A powerful 5.7-liter V8 engine drives the LX to 100 km/h in under 8 seconds. Horsepower rating is at 362 with maximum torque of 520 Nm. It can drive 8 adults at speeds up to 220 km/h.

The Infiniti QX80 is not to be outdone with its own 5.6-liter V8 engine churning out 400 hp and 560 Nm of torque. Acceleration is also faster at 7.3 seconds to reach 100 km/h. Unfortunately, it can only seat 7 adults. Maximum speed is a tad lower at 200 km/h.

Verdict

The entry-level Lexus LX 2017 570 Premier sells at AED 385,000, while the Infiniti QX80 2017 Excellence retails for a significantly lower AED 309,000. Customers who want more luxury and with more money to spend can opt for the Lexus tag, but those who want it simpler and with additional power to boot, can settle for the Infiniti.
