2017 Mazda CX 9 vs 2017 Kia Sorento Comparo

Posted by on Oct 29, 2017

Asian car manufacturers are known for producing affordable yet efficient SUVs since the early 2000s. That fact remains undisputable even today. Notable models like the Mazda CX-9, which was first released in 2006, is still quite popular among consumers. And one of its toughest competitors in the automobile market is the Kia Sorento, which was launched in 2002.

Exterior

The Mazda CX-9 is a slightly bigger SUV, with dimensions of 5.1 meters, 2.0 meters, and 1.7 meters for its length, width, and height. It also has body colored door handles, which distinguishes it from its Korean competitor.

Despite its smaller size at 4.7 meters long and 1.9 meters wide, the Kia Sorento boasts far more features than the Japanese offering. What sets it apart from its rival is its chrome plated radiator grille, roof rails, front fog lamps, auto headlights, and door mirrors with side turn signal.

Interior

Both SUVs have central locking systems, and can comfortably seat up to seven people. In addition to that, the Mazda CX-9 also offers power outlets, foldable rear seats, electronic brake force distribution, and traction control. It also has a modern dashboard style, as against the Sorento’s ordinary dashboard.

Nonetheless, the Korean SUV’s features are anything but ordinary. It boasts power steering, steering tilt adjustment, a trip computer, and multi information display. The Sorento also has safety features like the vehicle stability control, a tire pressure monitoring display, and an immobilizer. Passengers are also entertained via audio players and Bluetooth connectivity. And although smaller than its Japanese rival, the Sorento has a trunk capacity of 1,050 liters.

Performance

The CX-9 comes with a 2.5-liter engine that produces 226 horsepower and 420 NM of torque. It can run for as fast as 194 km/h with an acceleration of 100km/h in 8.3 seconds. On the other hand, the Kia Sorento has a 2.4-liter engine, which can generate 170 horsepower and 225 NM of torque. It has a maximum speed of 189 km/h, and can reach the 100km/h mark within 10.2 seconds.

Verdict

The 2017 Mazda CX-9 is offered at AED 120,000, which makes potential buyers opt for the less expensive Korean counterpart. Although the Japanese SUV amazes with its engine performance and spaciousness, the Korean SUV’s features undoubtedly steal the spotlight. Priced at AED 79,900, it can easily be said that the low-cost, stylish, and reliable 2017 Kia Sorento is among the SUVs that offer the best value for money.
