Porsche seems to be busy dominating the news and making headlines off-late. Less than a week after the launch of its all-new Panamera, the German marque laps the 2017 Panamera Turbo around the infamous Nurburgring Nordschleife and sets a seven minutes and thirty-eight seconds lap time.

Claiming the lap record for production sedans, the Panamera’s record time is just one second quicker than the previous benchmark set by the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio.  The all-new Panamera is equipped with a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 that churns out figures in the range of 550 horsepower.

The Panamera used to set the record has yellow calipers, indicating that it’s equipped with Porsche’s ceramic composite brakes (PCCB). The brakes alone are an AED 35,000 option on the current model and are unlikely to be any more affordable on the brand’s newest attraction, the 2017 Panamera.

The lap time set by the 2017 Porsche Panamera represents a vast improvement in speed compared with its predecessor that set a time of seven minutes and fifty-two seconds at the ‘Ring. Porsche also made it known that the lap was set in a standard, unmodified vehicle on street tires. The Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio that held the record before it, rode racing tires and was around 100kg lighter than the production version.
