2018 Infiniti QX50 spied in Dubai

The Infiniti QX50 is an important model for the Japanese marque. Having incubated the segment contender a decade ago, the formerly referred to Infiniti EX, is ready to take on up-and-coming rivals in its second-generation make over that is set to debut in the coming months.

Slotting in below the QX60, which shares a fair bit of its mechanicals and platform with the Nissan Pathfinder, the all-new Infiniti QX50 is believed to follow in the footsteps of its Q30 sibling and benefit from the Daimler-Infiniti alliance.

Closely related to the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class, the spy shots reveal a large front overhang and a short distance between the front wheels and A-pillar, suggesting that the QX50 could be trading its rear-wheel-drive layout for a transverse-engine, front-wheel-drive layout.

Should that prove to be true, Infiniti would be able to increase interior room in the compact luxury crossover, albeit at the cost of handling dynamics. From an aesthetic viewpoint, the QX50 features styling that closely follows the brand’s new design doctrine and appears to be wider than the current long and narrow QX50.

Equipped with a 268-horsepower 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine, output is expectedly lower than its predecessor’s 325-horsepower, indicating that a higher output engine might be on the cards in the future.
