Since its introduction in 2013, the current generation Lexus IS has been one of the most popular cars in its class. Providing a combination of luxury, performance, and relative affordability, this is a car that has proven to be a staple on the streets of Bahrain. Coming in with a major update, the 2018 Lexus IS tries to continue the success it’s enjoying for the past several years.

Exterior

2018 reflects the most extensive exterior update for the IS since the current generation of the IS was released in 2013. Many components in the IS, including the front fascia, headlights, taillights, and wheels, have been updated. It still looks as aggressive as ever, but those minor changes give a fresher look to the IS sedan.

Interior

The Lexus IS always had one of the most interesting interiors in its class, and the 2018 model is no exception to the rule. There are details all over the interior, from the red leather in the seats to the stitched center console. The interior also received several updates, the most notable being an upsized touchscreen (from 7 inches to 10 inches). While the interior redesign can be considered as a “minor” one, the revisions are still very significant.

Features

The Lexus IS comes with the same safety features made standard during the past model year. This means you will get as standard anti-lock brakes, traction control, and other exciting safety goodies. A new safety feature for this year is Lexus’ Safety System Plus, a system that includes lane departure alert, automatic high beam lights, cruise control, and a pre-collision system.

Specs

The drivetrain has always been a strong point of the current generation Lexus IS. From a puny 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine right up to a mighty 3.5-liter V6, the line-up is power packed in every way possible. The turbocharged 2.0-liter unit churns out 244 horsepower, while the naturally aspirated 2.5-liter and 3.5-liter engines whip out 204 and 306 horsepower respectively.

Verdict

While competition for the 2018 Lexus IS is as stiff as ever, it still more than holds its own. Four years since its introduction, it is still an amazing car, and all the upgrades it received make it an even better machine.
