It wasn’t just practical hatchbacks, SUVs, and family sedans that Nissan had brought to the 2017 Dubai Motor Show. In fact, garnering loads of appreciation and fascination from show-goers was this – the 2018 Nissan BladeGlider.

While the original concept made its debut at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show, this 2018 incarnation looks like it’s already close to production-ready. The Nissan BladeGlider is a 3-seat, scissor-door, rear-wheel drive Electric Vehicle (or EV) that makes this silent transport form look cool and futuristic again.

The design of the Nissan BladeGlider is way more radical than its other EV stablemate – the Leaf. The 2018 BladeGlider is also a lot quicker than its similarly sized hatchback sibling. The electric juice comes from a 220kW battery unit, which in turn runs a couple of 130kW motors (one for each of the rear wheels). The combined output of the electric motors is rated at 264 HP and 707 Nm of torque, the latter being really impressive.

Weighing in at a hefty 1,300 kg, the 2018 Nissan BladeGlider isn’t necessarily light. However, the punchy powertrain means that it can scoot from 0-100 km/h in a brisk 5 seconds, and attain a top speed of 190 km/h. It may not be as practical and family-friendly as the Leaf hatchback, but the Nissan BladeGlider definitely wins the vote for the more interesting and fun EV.
