2018 Renault Zoe Long Range Launched in the UAE

Having led the way into bringing EVs to the driveways of the general population eight years ago, Renault has introduced the all-new Zoe Long Range to eco-enthusiasts in the UAE. Joining the funky Twizy and the commercial Kangoo in the brand’s Electric Vehicle line-up, is a contemporary hatchback that has dominated EV sales in Europe for the past three years: the Zoe Long Range.

Although the Middle East, and the UAE in particular, seem to be more concerned with models such as the Koleos SUV and the launch of the all-new Duster next year, the upcoming EV hype has positioned itself as the perfect opportunity for the French manufacturer to introduce its passenger and commercial EV line-up to the public.

Doubling the range of its predecessor, the Zoe Long Range offers up to 300 kilometers of emission-and-sound-free driving on a single charge of its 40-kWh battery. The most affordable EV on the market, the Zoe Long Range flaunts a price tag of AED 129,900. Although it is significantly pricier than a conventional hatchback of its size, Renault claims customers make up for it with servicing costs that are half those of conventional vehicles.

Eliminating range anxiety (a fear of most contemplating the switch to EVs) the Zoe Long Range provides easy charging with cables and a socket cleverly positioned on its snout, under the brand’s insignia. With just two hours needed for a full charge, a quick ‘top up’ of 30 minutes increases the driving range by a significant 80 kilometers.

Marwan Haidamous, Managing Director for Renault Middle East, said; “The introduction of the new ZOE long range is an important step forward for electric mobility in the Middle East. Many drivers’ main fear around electric motoring is running out of battery power. Now we can offer our customers our longest driving range yet - 300 kilometers.”

Conventional in design and usability, demand for the Renault Zoe Long Range is likely to be heightened by government initiatives such as free charging until 2019, free parking, avoidance of Salik fees, and the elimination of annual vehicle registration in the UAE.
