A brief overview of the Chevrolet Aveo 2019

The budget subcompact segment is one of the most important areas for any high-volume carmaker. This segment involves intense and detailed market research plus highly competitive pricing strategy to lure prospective buyers in to the showroom. In the UAE, one of the most rounded offerings within this space is the 2019 Chevrolet Aveo.

The Aveo was introduced by Daewoo in 2002 and is now sold by Chevrolet in many emerging markets as one of their pocket-friendly family cars. The updated and much improved second generation of the Aveo made its debut in 2011. For its redone 2019MY, Chevrolet made several improvements to give it a fighting chance against industry heavyweights such as the Toyota Yaris, Kia Rio, Honda City, and Ford Fiesta.

Exterior

The outer styling of the 2019 Chevrolet Aveo is not going to turn heads or pop eyeballs of onlookers, though that is rather besides the point here. The entire design theme of the 2019 Aveo seems to be all about functionality triumphing over absolute styling. The front end gets no-nonsense, functional headlamps with LED daytime-running lights, but a sleek-looking grille, deep-chin bumper, and round halogen foglamps.

The practicality of the 2019 Aveo’s design becomes even more evident when viewed from the side. The rather bland silhouette highlights the Aveo’s high roof along with its expansive greenhouse area, and there are no key design aspects that really stand out. However, the inclusion of flared fenders, stylish wing mirrors, and ‘grab and pull’ door handles add some flavorful toppings to this vanilla ice-cream. The rear houses a large boot that gets a subtle lip spoiler, vertically-stacked taillights, and mildly-carved bumper with integrated static reflectors.

As for basic external dimensions, the 2019 Chevrolet Aveo measures 4.399 meters in length, 1.735 meters in width, 1.517 meters in height, and its wheelbase stretches 2.525 meters. It may not be a captivating car to look at, but the Aveo definitely scores big with its capacious 502-liter boot.

Interior

Just as with its exterior, the interior styling of the 2019 Chevrolet Aveo is all but functional. Of course, this is by no means the biggest offender when it comes to blandness, but slightly boring it certainly is. Having said that, certain elements such as the circular side air vents, simple yet sporty instrument cluster, soft leather-wrapped steering wheel, some really odd yet curious-looking cubby spaces, and a dollop of satin silver finishing for several trim pieces all help break the monotony of this cabin.

It may not boast a beautiful interior, but there is no dearth of usable space inside this cabin. There is plenty of headroom, legroom, and shoulder room is fine as well. The seats are adequately padded and support is decent. The 2019 Chevrolet Aveo’s extensive features list includes halogen headlamps, manual A/C, fabric seat upholstery, cruise control, electric ORVMs, keyless entry, and parking sensors. Meanwhile, standard safety equipment includes a whole of two front airbags, anti-lock brakes, and electronic brake-force distribution.

Engine and performance

The throbbing heart of the 2019 Chevrolet Aveo is a 1.6-liter, naturally-aspirated four-cylinder engine. This rather sizeable unit develops 115 HP along with 155 Nm of torque, and (thankfully) comes coupled to a standard 6-speed automatic sloshbox. The Aveo’s eager drivetrain not only allows it to touch a top speed of 186 km/h, but also attain a decent fuel burn of 7.2L/100 km. And as for its 0-100 km/h run? Well, that happens only after 12 seconds of furious driving.

Verdict

Prices for the 2019 Chevrolet Aveo (sedan) range from between AED 49,000 to AED 57,900, while insurance premium varies between AED 1,303 to AED 2,076, depending on the trim level.
