A quick look at the 2017 Nissan Maxima

Posted by Aji on Nov 6, 2017

As Nissan’s flagship entry in the midsize sedan segment, the Maxima is situated along a fine line, between premium cars and luxury cars. Nonetheless, the 2017 Nissan Maxima can carve a niche for itself thanks to its combination of attractive design, superior comfort, great features, and beyond-capable performance.

Exterior

The Maxima manages to stand out among other new midsize sedans with its interesting looks. While it does not look utterly luxurious or sporty, it has an intriguing overall design that makes it noticeably different from its peers. The effective use of angles and creases give it a cutting-edge look, especially in the front, where it utilizes Nissan’s new V-Motion design language.

Interior

The interior of the 2017 Nissan Maxima is designed to be appropriate for a luxury saloon. High-quality materials such as leather on the seats and soft-touch materials on the dash and handles are used liberally in the cabin. Nissan equipped the Maxima with its “Zero Gravity” seats, which provides a great balance between comfort and support. Also, while there is more than enough headroom and legroom in both front and rear, both figures are noticeably smaller compared to its midsize sedan counterparts.

Features

Given that it is a premium offering, it is almost expected that the Maxima must have a long list of standard features. These features include 18-inch wheels, automatic headlights, fog lights, daytime running lights, keyless ignition and entry, an 8-inch touchscreen, a navigation system, rearview camera, and a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel. A new standard feature for 2017 is Apple CarPlay. Standard safety features include the likes of anti-lock brakes, airbags, and traction and stability control.

Specs

There is only one engine option available in the 2017 Nissan Maxima: a 3.5-liter V6 engine that is capable of producing a maximum of 300 horsepower and 355 Nm of torque. The engine is linked to a CVT, which transfers the power to the front wheels. It has better acceleration than most of its peers, and its fuel economy is great for an engine of its size. The suspension is dialed for smooth riding for most conditions while still possessing passable handling characteristics.

Verdict

While it’s hard to say if the 2017 Nissan Maxima is the best of its class, it is among the most unique in it. For those who are looking to try something new, the Maxima is one of the best choices you can get.
