The Ford Focus is one of the highest selling cars in the world, and also one of the biggest success stories in the blue oval’s lineup. The Focus made its global debut with its first generation back in 1998 and since then, Ford has shipped more than 16 million of them all over the world.

With the launch of the 2019 Ford Focus, the American marquee has ushered in the model’s fourth generation. As always, the Focus is available as a hatchback, sedan, or station wagon. The all-new Focus brings in welcome changes in design, technology, and efficiency, and also promises to be a better everyday car than its predecessors in every way possible. Chief rivals for the 2019 Ford Focus include the Peugeot 308, Opel Astra, Volkswagen Golf, and Mazda 3.

Exterior

The 2019 Ford Focus’s design may not be a massive departure from that of its predecessors, but the tweaks and nip and tucks are certainly noticeable. The overall design is now more mature, classy, and upscale than before. The front of the Focus has a stylish hood with creases, sharp, tapered headlights, peculiar hexagonal chrome-plated grille, and a chiseled bumper with integrated foglights.

Along the side, there are smooth contours, subtle curves, pronounced wheel arches, fashionable 18-inch alloy wheels, and a svelte-looking sloping roofline. The rear of the Focus gets chic LED taillights, large roof spoiler, and a sporty-looking bumper. The new 2019 Focus is a chic car, especially in its hatchback form. As far as external dimensions are concerned, the 2019 Ford Focus measures 4.362 meters in length, 1.823 meters in width, 1.471 meters in height, and its wheelbase stretches 2.649 meters. As for the boot, the total capacity of the Focus hatchback is 277 liters.

Interior

The modern interior layout and styling of the 2019 Ford Focus looks quite fancy and sporty, but is also very functional as well. Other strengths of this interior include decent quality materials, good build, and acceptable fit and finish. Compared to its previous iterations, the cabin of the new Focus is a much better place to spend time in.

The 2019 Focus is easily large enough to be able to accommodate 5 occupants and offers great legroom, shoulder room, and despite the sloping roof, headroom isn’t an issue either. Also, the new, redesigned seats offer excellent comfort, support, and posture. The long features list sees automatic headlights with daytime-running LEDs, rain-sensing wipers, intelligent key with push-button start, electric sunroof, leather seats, automatic air-con, cruise control, ambient lighting, color multifunction driver’s display, parking sensors with rear camera, and a touch-infotainment display with navigation.

Standard safety equipment includes 6 airbags, traction and stability control, anti-lock brakes, hill assist, ISOFIX tethering points, and a tire pressure monitoring system.

Engine and performance

Under the hood of the 2019 Ford Focus, customers can opt for either a 1.5-liter or 2.0-liter EcoBoost, four-cylinder engine. The latter is only available in the spirited Focus ST and only with a 6-speed manual gearbox. Both engines drive the front wheels and except for the ST, the standard Focus gets an 8-speed automatic transmission.

While the EcoBoost 1.5-liter motor in the 2019 Ford Focus develops a respectable 150 HP and 240 Nm of torque, the dynamic Focus ST’s compelling 2.0-liter unit chucks out 247 HP and 360 Nm of torque. This means that the ST can hit 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds, and reach a top speed of around 250 km/h.

Verdict

The 2019 Ford Focus range kicks off at AED 81,900 for the base hatchback, and goes up to AED 115,900 for the lovely ST. Meanwhile, cost of insurance range between AED 1,843 to AED 2,608.
