Abu Dhabi installs new radars with number plate recognition technology

Posted by Zaran Tarapore on Sep 4, 2018

To better monitor the flow of traffic, Abu Dhabi Police have announced that new radars equipped with Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology have been installed around the emirate. The new radars are designed to read number plates, monitor the flow of traffic, and keep a track of the number of vehicles in a particular area.

Brigadier-General Ali Khalfan Al Dhaheri, director of central operations, Abu Dhabi Police, said: "The installation of new radars on the roads is part of a comprehensive plan to improve traffic safety and reduce accidents."

Following the installation of 17 solar-powered speed cameras last year, the new radars are installed in areas that are prone to violations and accidents, with the intention of reducing bad lane discipline, overtaking from the hard shoulder, and over speeding.
