Abu Dhabi Police are cracking down on parents/guardians who allow children to sit in the front seat of their cars. A new awareness campaign has been launched reminding motorists of the dangers of having underaged children occupy the front seat.

With a fine of AED 400 for those who don’t comply with the law, Abu Dhabi Police explained that children below 145cm or younger than 10 years old are not allowed to sit in the front seat. Instead for their own safety, they should be safely secured in the backseat, with an additional child/booster seat if necessary.

Stressing on the fact that child seats are mandatory for children under the age of four, Abu Dhabi Police was quoted as saying, “If an accident takes place and the child is not wearing the seatbelt, they can be thrown with a force that is similar to falling from the 10th floor.”

As a reminder, Abu Dhabi Police mentioned that seatbelts are compulsory for the driver and all passengers in a vehicle. Failing to wear a seatbelt will result in fines of AED 400 and four black points per individual in the vehicle.
