Held at the swanky Waldorf Astoria in Ras Al Khaimah, the regional launch of the fifth-generation CR V was attended by company executives and media representatives from around the country. The completely redesigned and reengineered 2017 CR V comes in four grades – DX, LX, EX, Touring – each with an impressive amount of kit as standard.

Set to surpass 2016’s 5,050,000 global sales figure, the 2017 CR V is available in nine exterior colors and two interior hues, with LED Daytime Running Lights and turn signals coming as standard. Boasting a bold new design, the all-new model features wide fenders, a longer wheelbase, and a wider track at the front and rear.

Contributing to its five-star safety rating, is its outer shell that is composed of ultra-high strength steel and segment-first features such as a Driver Attention Monitor. In addition to a customizable digital display that resides in the bright and legible instrument cluster, is exceptional mobile phone connectivity that comes in the form of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The 2.4-liter naturally aspirated engine under the hood, though chucking out an identical 184-horsepower and 244-Nm of torque to its predecessor, features direct injection that aids it in delivering a best in class fuel economy rating of 15.5 km/liter. The belt-driven CVT transmission introduces seven steps to mimic an automatic gearbox and helps the CR-V stand out from rivals such as the Toyota RAV-4, Nissan X-Trail, and Hyundai Tucson.

Larger brake discs which measure 312mm (+16mm) in the front and 310 mm (+5mm) in the back, complement the reworked AWD system that reduces slip by constantly channeling power to all four corners, even upon starting from a standstill.

Targeted to the techies of the current age, the 2017 CR V is packed with an 8-way power adjustable seat, two USBs for rear-seat passengers, Active Noise Cancellation for a quieter cabin, and a rather intriguing voice recognition system that automatically reduces the A/C fan speed for a sharper input of commands.

With models expected to make their way into showrooms before the end of the month, prices are rumored to be upwards of AED 90,000.
