All new electric Jaguar XJ prepares to take on Tesla Model S

Camouflaged images of the all-new Jaguar XJ have surfaced online and while all new cars deserve to be celebrated, this particular model is rewriting the history books for the British automaker. For the first time in the brand’s 85-year history, its new flagship model will be fully electric, ready to take on the likes of the Tesla Model S, Porsche Taycan, and Audi e-tron GT.

Although heavily camouflaged, small sections of the grille remain exposed, revealing a design quite like that of the Jaguar I-Pace. Flanking the grille are narrower headlamps, possibly for a sleeker and more modern look. At the back, it is clear that the vertical taillamps from the outgoing model will be replaced with new horizontal lights and that the traditional door handles have been replaced with pop-out handles like the I-Pace.

As for the powertrain, the Jaguar XJ could utilize four electric motors pushing out a combined output of 800 horsepower, a significant jump over the 575 horsepower of the current range-topping XJR. As per reports released online, the all-new XJ is expected to be powered by a 90.2-kWh battery pack that can provide up to 470 kilometers per charge.

Over to you, Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz
