All-new Ford Mustang arrives with V8 power and manual gearbox

The all-new Ford Mustang is here and - hurrah! - it has kept the iconic Coyote V8 alive. Many anticipated that the EV revolution could take its toll on the next-gen Mustang but the seventh generation of the pony car has stayed true to its roots.

Let’s talk about the powertrain first: Ford is offering two options in the form of “an all-new” 2.3-liter EcoBoost and the monstrous 5.0-liter V8 which now has twin airboxes and dual throttle bodies.

All the power will be sent to the rear wheels no matter which engine you choose. In terms of the transmission options available, the Ecoboost Mustang will come with a 10 speed automatic gearbox because very few consumers wanted a manual gearbox. As for the V8, it will send its power to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox.

A very cool feature that can be found in this generation of the Mustang is remote engine revving which allows the driver to start their car and rev the engine via key fob. And, before we forget to tell you, there’s an electronic drift brake as well.

Exterior-wise, Ford is offering a whole host of options with 12 different wheel designs and multiple calliper colours for the Performance Pack’s Brembo brakes available to choose from.

Inside, the quality of the materials has improved and the duo of a flat-bottom steering wheel and a slab-style display being the stars of the show. The 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster serves as the information hub for the driver and is connected to a 13.2-inch touchscreen.

Ford is providing plenty of options here as well for the seat upholsteries, seat belts which can be had in a particular colour or with asymmetric stripes.

“This is the most athletic and confidence-inspiring Mustang EcoBoost and GT to drive yet,” said Ed Krenz, Ford Mustang chief nameplate engineer. “Whether driving an automatic or manual transmission, thanks to drive modes combined with fine-tuned digital engine, suspension and steering controls, we’re now able to give drivers peak performance everywhere, from their favourite roads to their local track.”
