Aston Martin DBS 770 Ultimate Debuts as swansong of V12 flagship

“DBS has always sat at the pinnacle of the Aston Martin production model line-up” says Aston Martin’s website - probably the content writer was even teary-eyed while typing this. The DBS has always exhibited to petrolheads all around the world what the Gaydon-based automaker is capable of with its V12 flagship.

Sadly, it is time to say goodbye to the DBS because this cruel world doesn’t have a space for good dinosaurs like the supercar. Meet the DBS 770 - the ultimate swansong which, of course, happens to be the most powerful DBS of all time.

The 770 in the name stands for metric horsepower, but the figures you need to know are that the glorious twin-turbocharged 5.2-liter V12 thumps out 759 horsepower and 663 lb ft of torque. The increase in power is thanks to Aston’s engineers working their magic on the engine's intake and ignition for a 7-percent increase in boost pressure along with fine-tuning of engine parameters.

The power is put on the road via an 8-speed automatic gearbox. Time for some stats, as to how the car does once the engine and gearbox have done their work, so here goes - 0-62mph takes 3.4 seconds and the DBS 770 Ultimate will reach 211 mph flat-out. Wait, isn’t that similar to the regular DBS? Yup, they are but c’mon, surely this isn’t ‘slow’ by any standards.

The DBS 770 Ultimate gets ‘Sports Plus Seats’ in leather and Alcantara, a contrast trim inside, a laser-etched 770 Ultimate logo, carbon fibre gearshift paddles and a sill plaque for obvious reasons. Customers wanting more personalisation can contact Aston’s Q branch for more bespoke features.

Talking about customers, the DBS 770 Ultimate will be available in both coupe and Volante (open-top roadster, as we people understand it) version. And surprise, surprise, all the 300 Coupes and 199 Volantes have been sold out for a price yet to be disclosed. Production will begin later this year in the first quarter, with deliveries beginning in the summer.
