Aston Martin DBX707 named as new F1 Medical Car

The 2023 Formula 1 season is just round the corner with the curtain-raiser in Bahrain set to take place from 3-5 March. For the new season, F1 has announced an all new safety car in the form of the Aston Martin DBX707.

The DBX707 has been acclaimed as the ultimate super SUV with its 4.0-liter V8 engine 697 horsepower (707 metric horsepower, hence the 707 in the name) 900 Newton-meters of torque. All that extra power is thanks to a new pair of ball-bearing turbochargers coupled with some engine recalibration.

For its F1 duties, Aston has added some pretty cool stuff to the DBX707 like a new wet clutch transmission and a special launch control-like feature known as “Race Start” which makes the SUV ready for the call to action from Race Control. F1’s official tyre supplier, Pirelli, will also be supplying a special tyre for the new DBX707 medical car.

Safety is the utmost priority of a medical car and so Aston Martin has provided the DBX707 with fire extinguishers, medical bags and a defibrillator along with FIA-approved racing seats - each with a six-point racing harness. The passengers in the new medical car will be having access to the FIA Marshalling system and biometric data coming from F1 drivers and live television images to provide early assessment of the situation.

Roberto Fedeli, Aston Martin Chief Technology Officer, said: “DBX707 is the perfect vehicle for the critical role as an Official FIA Medical Car of Formula 1®, providing the performance and punch required for the world’s greatest racing circuits, in addition to the flexibility and space required by the sport’s officials and medics.”

“We are delighted to continue our partnership with Formula 1® and the FIA this season, with the pinnacle of motorsport a perfect environment for Aston Martin to showcase the capabilities of our ultra-luxury high-performance cars. With the eyes of the world on our products, there is pressure to perform, but that intensity pushes us to constantly improve.  Seeing our cars used in an official capacity at such prestigious events is something that everyone at Aston Martin is very proud of.”
