Audi gets new suspension springs

Audi has developed a new coil spring called ‘GFRP spring’ with the help of an Italian supplier. They say it is much better than a regular steel spring. The highlights of this new spring are as follows:

- Light green, fiber strand is thicker than wire of steel spring and has less number of coils.

- Steel spring weighs about 2.7kgs whereas the GFRP spring weighs about 1.6kgs thus making it 40 percent lighter. In total, the 4 GFRP springs reduce weight by around 4.4kgs.

- GFRP springs can be tuned as per the objective at hand.

- The springs do not corrode.

- Production of GFRP requires less energy than steel springs
