Audi threatens BMW luxury status

Rising global sales for Audi threaten BMW, as reported by Bloomberg. Over the last eight months, Audi has sold over 961,000 cars while BMW has sold 963,110 cars.

The catch up has been attributed largely to Audi's rising prominence in China and US, with 33 percent and 11 percent growth respectively.

Another factor has been Audi's investment in R&D since 2002 to churn out 12 model lines, with more A-Class derivatives to follow soon.

BMW has responded by quadrupling it's China production capacity. Meanwhile Audi has invested $1.3 billion USD in opening a new manufacturing plant in Puebla, Mexico to boost it's growth prospects in US.

The heat is on, stay tuned for more!
