Authorities clarify how many people allowed per car in UAE

With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the UAE government has introduced strict guidelines to be followed by motorists, with regards to the social distance that must be maintained by all occupants inside a vehicle. A question many residents and citizens in the UAE were asking themselves is: how many people are allowed to travel in the same car?

The National Emergency and Crisis Management Authority (NCEMA) have clarified the rules, making it clear for all to understand and follow. A maximum of 3 occupants are legally allowed to travel in the same car, until and unless they are from the same family, then more than 3 are permitted.

For larger vehicles, such as staff transportation vehicles, NCEMA has advised companies to ensure a gap of two empty seats between passengers and to make sure that all occupants are wearing a face mask at all times.

Finally, if at any point in time there is more than one occupant present inside a vehicle, wearing a face mask is mandatory. Not doing so will incur a minimum fine of AED 3,000.
