Bahrain to host opening of 2014 F1 Grand Prix

Bahrain's Crown Prince attended the race before the grand prix in Montreal.

According to Martin Whitmarsh, McLaren team principal and also the chairman of the Formula One Teams Association, Bahrain is set to be confirmed to have the 2014 Formula One season's opening grand prix.

"The idea of having a test in mid-January, probably in Jerez, logistically is straightforward," he said, "then having a gap by which you can respond to the issues and then testing in some warm weather in the Middle East seems to be attractive to the teams. And if you’re there, starting the season there seems a pretty sensible approach. So I think most people have agreed it and I suspect it’s going to be confirmed.”

He also added that he's not sure if Russia or New Jersey would be ready in time, but he is concerned about forcing too many races to the sport this season.
