Bentley Speed 6 – Ready To Take On The Sports Car World

After the massive popularity of the Continental, Bentley has designed a 2-seat sports coupé and they’ve set their sights on Ferrari, Aston Martin & Mercedes.

On first glances, you’d be forgiven for mistaking the Speed 6 for a completely different car; the design is distinctly un-Bentley and all the best for it. There are hints of Aston Martin about it, especially in the side profile and praise doesn’t come much higher than that. From other angles, it’s a mixed bag. The rear is elegant, featuring single oval tail lights and exhaust pipes either side, it strikes just the right balance between luxury and sport. The front, on the other hand, is less appealing. The huge, silver grille and odd headlights don’t really pair well and their placement seems off. Inside, the Speed 6 is festooned with swathes of gorgeous wood, brushed aluminium and expensive leather.

Though this car is still a concept, Bentley chairman, Wolfgang Durheimer claimed it has the potential to be the pinnacle of luxury sports cars, implying that the Speed 6 could well make production.

It is rumoured that if the concept was signed off, the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 from the Bentley Continental and Audi RS6 would be used, though most likely in a different state of tune. With the obvious reduction in size and weight compared to Bentley’s usual offerings, it should provide more than enough firepower to be competitive.
