Beware: Car Begging Widespread in Ramadan

Several foreigners in Gulf registered vehicles have been caught by the anti-beggary agency in Saudi Arabia for publicly begging for money. These well-dressed people stop and ask people for large sum of money as their money has been lost or stolen. They are usually found near ATMs. The agency has urged the general public to not help them as they are fraudsters.

One incident is of an Indian man and his family in a Dubai license plate approaching an individual to beg for money. Their alibi was that the man lost his wallet and wanted huge sum of money to return.

Such cases have been happening for a while in Saudi Arabia as some naïve people actually give in to such fraud stories due to the spirit of giving and so the general public is being warned by the authorities to help them capture such swindlers.

Incidentally such cases have been reported extensively in Dubai as well where drivers with Saudi number plates beg for money with similar excuses like lost wallets or car damage. Please report such cases to Dubai Police wherever required.
