Budget Hatchbacks in the UAE

Posted by Abhik Ahuja on Dec 14, 2017

With its rising popularity in the UAE due to the volume of cars in the streets and the limited availability of parking spaces, hatchbacks seem like the most practical choice. There is no doubt why more and more people choose to get one for themselves with its size, practicality, and fuel efficiency. Below, we list the top 3 budget hatchbacks available in the country.

Suzuki Celerio

The Celerio is what a modern hatchback should look like, although it has limited features to keep the prices competitive. With a 1.0-liter 4-cylinderr engine, its tiny motor can use either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic to power up to 100 km/h in 15.2 seconds. It is compact and light, making it very fuel-efficient. As a full-options hatchback sold for only AED 31,900, the Celerio is a steal.

Mazda 3

The Mazda 3 has a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine, partnered with a 5-speed automatic transmission that lets it reach 100 km/h in 12.2 seconds using 103 hp and with 145 Nm of torque. It also has standard features such as electric power steering, front discs and rear drum brakes, CD stereo and the like. Unsurprisingly, the Mazda 3 is the most expensive of the lot.

Kia Picanto

The Kia Picanto packs quite a punch. With prices starting at AED 36,900, the Kia Picanto is a spacious, funky, and economical car, perfect for those who are after practicality and style. It uses a 1.2-liter engine, paired to a five-speed automatic transmission, to churn out 84 horsepower and 122 Nm of torque. Top speed stands at 161 km/h, while a 0 – 100 km/h sprint is dealt with in under 14 seconds.

When comparing the three budget hatchbacks, Mazda 3 comes out the most attractive of the lot with plenty of features and exceptional build quality. For those on a tighter budget and who are willing to look past the blatant use of hard plastics, the Kia Picanto is the one to go for.
