Cadillac takes on Tesla Model S with upcoming Electric Vehicle

Posted by Zaran Tarapore on Mar 9, 2020

Those of you who have been following the Cadillac brand closely, are probably aware that the American manufacturer has discontinued its CT6 sedan and is in need of a new flagship offering. Taking on an unventured path, Cadillac is attempting to enter the hand-built, low-volume, all-electric segment with a sedan it intends to call Celestiq.

With production set to take place at GM’s Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant, the Celestiq is claimed to be the "ultimate expression of Cadillac design and technology, and the ultimate luxury experience", but what is really going to set it apart is its hefty price tag. Priced at approximately $200,000 (AED 735,000) the Celestiq will go on to become the brand’s most expensive production model ever but will also end up turning its focus away from the Tesla Model S for the likes of Bentleys, Mercedes-Maybachs, and Rolls-Royces.

All that needs to be done now is to make sure the company doesn’t repeat its mistakes and launch a half-baked product as they did with the plug-in hybrid ELR. Fortunately, the Celestiq is expected to ride on GM’s next-gen pure EV platform instead of using an existing architecture. Let’s wait and see what route the American brand ends up taking.
