Car Insurance to Link to Safety Record in UAE

Reforms to car-insurance policies should link premiums to a driver’s safety record, an expert says.

A draft law to standardize motor policies has been prepared by the UAE Insurance Authority and the draft regulations are in their final stages and have been referred to the federal Cabinet.

Dr Abdulilah Zineddin, a road-safety specialist in Abu Dhabi, said: “From a safety point of view, I hope the new updated insurance laws will track drivers’ safety records and they will increase the insurance premium based on that,” adding, “So if drivers get speeding tickets, their insurance premium should increase, and if they perform well it should be reduced.”

Experts have welcomed the new proposed reforms, saying that this could lead to more safety on the roads.
