Malibu, a name associated with the finest of beaches and beverages, is also a nameplate that has been an integral part of Chevrolet’s line-up for a number of decades. Launched to the region’s elite at the Vida Downtown in Dubai, the ninth-generation model is Chevrolet’s answer to the likes of the Hyundai Sonata, Nissan Altima, and Toyota Camry.

Previewed at the bustling Dubai Motor Show a couple of years ago, the all-new Malibu is just one of Chevrolet’s 8 new launches set for the coming year.

Aesthetically, the 2017 Malibu is an evolution of its predecessor and bears even greater similarity to the Impala with its sulking mien. Though beauty is in the eye of the beholder, the Malibu’s beauty is unseen by most.

The entry-level LS variant rides on a set of 16-inch steel wheels and bears a surprisingly low starting price of just AED 69,900 in the UAE. Climb up the spec ladder and into the LT variant at AED 76,900 and into the LTZ for 95,000.

With just one engine on offer, a 2.5-liter EcoTec 4-cylinder unit, figures are rated at 186 horsepower and 249 Nm of torque. Although not the punchiest (something Chevrolet aims to rectify with the Malibu Turbo), it makes up for it with a claimed 14.3 km/L of gasoline, which when keeping its segment in mind, is truly remarkable.
