Comparing the Yaris vs City

Today we are comparing the stars in the smallest sedan segment among the Japanese brands. This is going to be an interesting comparison since both the Toyota Yaris and Honda City have the same starting price i.e. AED 53,900 and they are part both sold by Al-Futtaim group.
The most popular hatchback from Toyota in the GCC. The Yaris also comes as a sedan to compete with the other small sedans on the road. Although, there is not much difference in the sedan as compared to the hatchback apart from the shape of the car. So, let’s see what the local dealer provides for that amount of money. Firstly, the engine: the Toyota Yaris comes with a 1.5 liter 4 cylinder engine producing 107 bhp and 140 Nm of torque. This is a punchy engine and needs to be kept at high rev to get some feel of the car. This engine is mated to a four speed automatic transmission. Toyota has still kept the old school four speed automatic and not opted for the CVT gearbox like all other modern cars. This is good for the feel but not that great for fuel economy. Other than that, you get the basic features like 14” steel wheels and dual airbags.
The other most popular choice in the small sedan category is the Honda City. First thing you will notice in the City is that is much more spacious than the Yaris. I won’t by lying when I say that it is more spacious than the Civic as well. It is not like the car is bigger in dimensions because the Yaris and the City have almost the same dimensions but interior feels a lot spacious in the city. So what do you get for the price? Well, the City comes with a 1.5 liter 4 cylinder engine producing 118 BHP and 142 Nm of torque. This engine is more powerful than the one found in Yaris. This engine is mated to a CVT gearbox instead of the 4 speed automatic found in the Yaris. This gearbox means better fuel economy but at the end both the Yaris and the City have the same fuel consumption though City has a better engine. Other than that, you get 15” wheels and dual airbags apart from the other basic features.
